Purcell View is more than a seniors apartment building – it’s home to people who have deep roots in Golden and Area. Many residents have spent decades living, working, raising families, and contributing to the community. As housing needs change, Purcell View provides an opportunity to remain close to familiar people, places, and connections.
The building itself has a long history in Golden dating back to 1972, under the stewardship of the Golden and District Housing Society. Today, it continues to serve an important role in our community by providing affordable and stable housing for local older adults. Many residents make Purcell View their long-term home, with very little resident turnover – a reflection of the lasting sense of home and community that has developed within the building. Shared spaces and gathering areas further support those connections that help foster a sense of community, giving neighbours more opportunities to spend time together and enjoy their home.
After amalgamating with the Golden and District Seniors Housing Society, Golden CED assumed operation of Purcell View in October 2024. Since then, we have embraced every opportunity to make the building an even better place to live. From everyday maintenance to larger projects, we continually look for ways to enhance comfort, accessibility, and quality of life for our residents. Recent improvements include a new outdoor gazebo and gathering space that extends residents’ living space outdoors, enhanced landscaping, as well as accessibility upgrades to the shared laundry room.
For Golden CED, being a community housing provider means more than maintaining a building. It means preserving and caring for existing community housing assets while creating new homes to meet the evolving needs of our community. It means listening and responding to residents, investing in the long-term quality of our housing, and seeking opportunities to enhance comfort, accessibility, and quality of life. Purcell View demonstrates what locally-focused housing can accomplish: helping long-time residents remain part of the community they helped build, in a home that is cared for and continually improving.
