Golden operates at the centre of a working transportation corridor. Located on the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Vancouver, it provides direct access to Western Canada’s primary east–west route. Major markets, international airports, rail connections, and cross-border access are all within a day’s drive. That access allows businesses to remain rooted in Golden while reaching far beyond it.
Golden offers a way of living that holds together over time. The setting is immediate and constant, shaping how people spend their time and connect to the place. At the same time, the essentials are here. Services, housing, and a strong sense of community support people building their lives, not just passing through.

Golden is the only community in Canada within 90 minutes of six national parks. Hiking, paddling, skiing, and mountain biking aren't weekend escapes — they're part of the daily commute.
A Year-Round Arts and Culture Scene
A craft brewery, distillery, farmers market, and a full calendar of live music and festivals. Culture here isn't imported — it's homegrown.
Full-Service Healthcare Right in the Community
Golden has a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency, surgical, and obstetrical care — a rare offering for a community this size, backed by a full network of local health providers.
Housing That is Within Reach
Over 83% of Golden households spend less than 30% of their income on housing — a stability metric that supports long-term workforce retention and community rootedness.
What began as a passion project has become one of Golden’s most beloved local businesses. Co-founders Kent Donaldson and Mark Nagao launched Whitetooth Brewing in 2016, and despite the pressures facing craft breweries across Canada — rising costs, shrinking consumer spending, and distribution challenges — they’ve found creative ways to adapt and push forward.
We’ve got skilled staff on hand to keep the canning line running smoothly, and we now apply labelling in-house."
Four Decades in Fashion and Retail: How Top Notch BBS Built a Retail Legacy in Golden, BC
Since 1985, Deb and Brent’s family-run store has grown by staying nimble, knowing their customer, and embracing everything that makes Golden unique.
Yes, we would choose Golden again,” says Deb without hesitation. It is a great place to live and raise a family. We’ve made a good living and will be able to retire comfortably. I’m not a city person - I like doing business in a small town."
From Avalanche Airbags to a National Brand Portfolio
In 2005, Chuck launched a small online shop selling avalanche safety gear — driven not by a business plan, but by a genuine belief that more people venturing into the backcountry needed better access to life-saving equipment. Avalanche safety was personal.
Golden is a great place to run a business, particularly in the outdoors. You have great, loyal employees that are willing to work for a reasonable wage. The lifestyle is fantastic. And the tools are in place where the challenges you face are easily overcome.”
Durston Gear – A global ultralight gear brand, designed in Golden, BC
In 2017, Dan and his wife Tea completed a 2,300-kilometre hike through the Canadian Rockies. They fell hard for the landscape and decided that whatever came next, it had to be rooted here. They settled in Golden in 2018. The business came next — not by plan, but by inevitability.
We’re able to test the gear right in the real environment. We go out into the mountains and we actually use the prototypes. And when we’re doing product photos, I can drive 15 minutes down the road to the Blaeberry — that’s where all our photos are done.”
Ethos Café & Boulangerie: A concept built on craft, proven by demand.
Ethos Café & Boulangerie opened in December 2021 with modest expectations — and was immediately overwhelmed by demand. Three and a half years later, they'd nearly tripled their floor space with the launch of Ethos Boulangerie, grown their team from 12 to 30, and scaled sourdough production to over 100 loaves on peak days. Their success is equal parts craft, timing, and location: Golden's mix of year-round residents, visitors, and an open, unsaturated market gave a well-prepared operator the room to grow fast.
In Golden, any person with a vision and a project can deliver on that and create something that’s their own. There is very little restraint. The playing field is open.”
Golden offers a strong network of organizations and programs that support businesses at every stage — from startup and expansion to exporting and workforce development.
