Housing Projects

Golden CED started pursuing affordable housing projects in 2018, with the long-term goal of developing and operating a community-owned portfolio that continues to serve community needs into the future.

Past Initiatives
Housing Connector

In 2018 we hosted an educational community housing event with guest speakers including a housing consultant, community champions, and developers, speaking to:

  • What affordable housing is;
  • Housing needs in Golden;
  • Potential solutions to increase the number of units in our community;
  • Developing challenges and proposed solutions;
  • Innovative energy efficiency and affordability options.

Still very relevant, you can watch it below.

Temporary Housing Camp

In 2022 we examined a short-term solution to local labour shortages by providing temporary workforce housing. The idea consisted of establishing a temporary housing camp with the rental of multiple modular structures and services while adding the required infrastructure.

It turned out not to be financially feasible, but you can learn more below.

For thousands of years, the abundance of the earth’s lands and waters provided us to live, work and play is a result of the ecological wisdom, stewardship and reciprocal relationship of the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc peoples whose unceded territory we continue to live, work and play. The area is also the chosen home of the Metis Nation Columbia River.
