Community Action for Workforce Development

About the Project

The Community Action for Workforce Development (CAWD) was a pilot project funded by the Government of Canada that we participated in and delivered in 2024, in partnership with Canadian CED Network.

It was designed to support a transition to an economy that is resilient to climate change while also supporting marginalized communities in acquiring new skills so that everyone can move forward together. As the project leader in the Golden area, Golden CED’s role was to recruit and match workers and employers, and assist participants in accessing funding for training and supports.

* Marginalized communities, for the purpose of this project, were defined as people who identified as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour), 2SLGBTQIA+, women and youth (18-30 years), newcomers, older workers (55+), official language minority groups and persons with disabilities.

The 10 eligible employers that participated in the project were able to access up to $5,500 to:

  • Train new hires or current employees to acquire new job-related skills;
  • Additional training for employers.

The 60 eligible workers that participated in the project were able to access funding for:

  • Paid training to improve workplace skills;
  • Access support to decrease barriers to employment.

Training for employers

During the project, the following training opportunities were offered to participating employers:

  • Clean economy
  • Social inclusion and social justice

For thousands of years, the abundance of the earth’s lands and waters provided us to live, work and play is a result of the ecological wisdom, stewardship and reciprocal relationship of the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc peoples whose unceded territory we continue to live, work and play. The area is also the chosen home of the Metis Nation Columbia River.
