Community Housing

Golden Community Economic Development manages, administers and operates its own community housing units.

Golden CED’s community housing residential units are resident restricted.

What does that mean?

Resident Restricted Housing is a strategy that restricts who can rent Golden CED’s housing units to people who live and work in the Golden area long term. The restriction allows for residents who have lived and worked in the Golden area before they retired, became disabled, or whatever their situation may be.

Our community housing units are not meant for people who work remotely, retire and want to move here, or otherwise choose to live in our community unless they are physically working in the Golden area for a local business or organization. People who do not meet our resident restricted requirements are served by market housing opportunities and are a welcome addition to our diverse community!

Downtown Housing Project

Golden CED is really excited to be developing a mixed use commercial and residential rental building in Golden’s historic downtown core. We will be offering a mix of studio, one bedroom and two bedroom units. Our building will be energy efficient, within walking or rolling distance to all the downtown amenities and services, and will offer residents brand new units to call home.

Project Concept
  • Mixed commercial and resident restricted rental housing:
    • Commercial/retail units on main floor;
    • 30 residential units, including a mix of studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments.
  • Providing housing for approximately 40-50 residents.
  • Community owned and operated.
  • Visually appealing building in the historic downtown core.
  • Offering walkability, reducing the need for a vehicle.
  • Being efficient to operate, reducing cost to residents.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:  Are there accessible units in the building?

A: Yes! Our building will be serviced by stairs and an elevator and will offer some fully accessible units.

Q:  What are the rental rates for the units?

A: At this point in time, we do not know what the rental rates will be. Stay tuned to our website for more information as it becomes available.

Q:  Is there resident parking?

A: Yes! Our building will have parking in our own parking lot accessed from the back laneway. There will be a limit on the number of stalls available per rental unit.

Q:  How do I apply for a unit?

A: Sign up to our mailing list here to be notified when we start accepting applications. If you don’t want to join the mailing list, you can watch our website for updates.

Q:  When can residents move in?

A: There are a lot of variables that will determine when people can move in. We’re still in the preconstruction phase, so it might still be a couple years before we know when our first move in date will be.

Q:  What happens once the units are full?

A: We will have an on-going waitlist for our units. People on our waitlist will be pre-approved for eligibility and matched to the appropriate unit type(s) when they become available.  More information about the waitlist will be provided once we open the application process.

Q:  I’m interested in commercial space. How do I learn more about the commercial units?

A: Sign up to our commercial space mailing list here to be notified when we have updates on the commercial units that will be available for rent.
